Two things. The model itself — accurate geometry, real proportions, joinery and materials — and a short white-background turntable of each piece, rotating a full 360° so the product can be seen from every angle.
The turntable is worth naming separately, because for our last two modeling clients it was the deliverable rather than a step towards one. Taube Studio and a German lighting manufacturer both took the animations straight onto their own websites. Nothing was rendered into a scene afterwards; the models were the product.
Across those three batches that came to forty pieces: twelve chairs and armchairs, ten coffee tables and nightstands, and eighteen table and floor lamps.

The most recent batch out of Taube Studio was 22 pieces — twelve chairs and armchairs alongside ten coffee tables and nightstands — modelled and delivered in three weeks with approvals inside that window, across two rounds of revisions. A separate batch of eighteen table and floor lamps for a German manufacturer took the same three weeks, over three rounds.
Volume matters less than variety. Twenty-two pieces that share a construction language move faster than eight that do not, because the second chair in a family reuses decisions the first one settled.
Reference quality is the other lever. CAD or existing 3D files are the fastest possible start. Photographs with dimensions are workable. Sketches take longest, because the geometry has to be reconstructed and then checked against measurements before anything else can happen.

Taube Studio design and fabricate custom furniture out of Ridgewood, Queens, which makes their work the clearest case for 3D furniture modeling: a new piece has to be looked at — by them, and by whoever commissioned it — well before anything is cut, and a drawing only shows the angles it was drawn from.
A model shows all of them. Proportions that read correctly in elevation can be wrong in the round, and that is a cheaper thing to discover on screen than in hardwood.
They have been ordering steadily for more than a year, which is the part worth paying attention to. A one-off batch proves the images were acceptable; a year of repeat orders means the modelling step earned a permanent place in how the studio works.

It stays useful, and that is the whole economic case for modelling rather than shooting. It is also why 3D modeling and rendering services are usually quoted together rather than separately: the model is built once and paid for once, and everything after that draws on it.
A new colour or finish is a material change on existing geometry, not a new job. A lifestyle scene places the same model in a room. An animation moves a camera around it. None of those restart the modelling.
Dragonfly Furniture took 30 SKUs to market this way, with every colour variation coming out of the same set of models and not a single physical sample produced. That is the same asset doing four jobs.

Four kinds of reference work, in this order of speed: CAD or existing 3D files, technical drawings with dimensions, photographs of a physical piece alongside measurements, and sketches with accurate measurements. 3D CAD modeling services start fastest for the obvious reason: the geometry already exists and only needs rebuilding for render.
Dimensions are not optional in any of those routes. Furniture is judged against human proportion, so a piece modelled a few centimetres out looks fine alone and wrong the moment it sits beside anything else.
Materials should arrive as specifications rather than adjectives: an oak with a finish name, a fabric with a reference, a metal with a coating. 'Warm wood' is where revision rounds come from.

When the piece already exists, you need a handful of images of it as it is, and there are no colour or material variants coming. Modelling is an upfront cost that pays back through reuse, and with nothing to reuse there is nothing to pay it back.
The calculation flips as soon as any of that changes: a product not yet manufactured, a range of finishes, a catalogue that has to stay visually consistent, or images that need to exist before production does.

Do you model things other than furniture?+
Yes — 3D product modeling services and architectural 3D modeling services use the same process, just at different scales. A cabinet and a building both come down to accurate geometry, correctly specified materials, and a model light enough to render or load. Furniture is simply where most of our volume sits, and 3D furniture modeling services are what we are asked for most often.
Can you do custom 3D modeling for a product that does not exist yet?+
That is the normal case rather than the exception. Custom 3D modeling services work from whatever defines the design — drawings, dimensions, a prototype photograph — and produce the first images of a product before anything is manufactured. That is how Taube Studio commission new pieces: the model exists before the first cut is made. If you spell it modelling, we deliver the same thing; 3D modelling and rendering services is the British spelling of the same line item.
Can I put the turntable animations on my own website?+
Yes, and they are built to go there. You get them as looping video sized for a product page rather than as a sequence you would have to assemble yourself, and the white background means they drop into any page template without a reframe. Both of our recent modeling clients published theirs exactly this way.
